I've done the backfill, what do I do now? Do you have any notes/help?
The new system is quite intuitive, but there are some important points/notes that you might find useful, and these are listed below. 1) Visiting/logging-in You don't need to go via your vpasp admin system to get to your account in byk, instead we advise that you go to: http://www.bigyellowkey.com/ directly on your browser, login (if you're not logged in already), and go to the "my software" link/tab, and then add that to your favorites. The login is permanent (ie uses cookies), so unless you clear your browser cookies/cache you'll stay logged in forever regardless of whether you leave the site, reboot etc (it'll never timeout, either for the login, or for the mini-cart). If you want to explicitly clear/delete your login cookie (eg if you're on a shared pc), then you can just click on the logout link; that'll clear/delete the cookie from your pc. So, once you're logged in and you've got the favorite, all you need to do to view your software list and see if there are any upgrades available is to go directly to your favorite on your browser. 2) Maximise your byk browser window Make sure you maximise the byk browser window if it's not already in a maximised window, otherwise the tabs/formatting might not display the screen very well. 3) Multiple Domains/Subdomains and their corresponding prices If you've got more than one domain/subdomain licensed, you might get an initial fright when you see the upgrade prices on your "my software" tab, please don't panic, because in this instance those prices will not usually be the price you'd actually need to pay. This is a very important point, so please read this note carefully because dealing with multiple domains/subdomains fairly and at a reasonable price is a crucial part of how we treat our customers. By default, localhost upgrades/licenses are free as long as at least one "real" domain is upgraded/bought at the same time. All other domains/subdomains are treated as separate licences (ie you pay per domain/subdomain) by default. However, in the majority of cases, the additional domains/subdomains would normally be licensed for free by us (as long as they're essentially for the same overall business), it's just that the system doesn't cater for that automatically (yet). You can upgrade at 2 levels; one is at "module" level (ie all domains for a given module) and this will be the high price (on the left of the mysoftware screen) if you have multiple domains, and the other is at "module/domain" level (ie a given module on a given domain; the lower/single-license price on the right-side of the mysoftware screen). Once you buy an upgrade (or new addon) for your main real domain, to get the corresponding upgrade/license for your other domains just contact us and we'll add it for you for free via our byk admin screens (assuming it's for essentially the same overall business). So, unless your domains really are for totally different businesses, you'd normally only need to pay for a single domain (either for upgrades or new addons) and then ask us to add the other domains/subdomains for free (localhost can be added by you for free as part of the normal links/processing; it's only non-localhost domains/subdomains that need this manual intervention). 4) 6 Months Free Upgrades, and upgrade notes For all our addons, you get free upgrades for the first 6 months after you originally bought it. If you buy an upgrade more than 6 months after your initial purchase, then you're then covered for another 6 months (upgrade prices, when charged, are generally about 1/3rd the price of the main software). You can view the version history of any given addon that you own by clicking on the module id on your mysoftware screen. That way you can check whether you need/want to get the upgrade. All available upgrades are mentioned/linked on your mysoftware screen automatically so you can see at a glance which of your modules have upgrades available since the last version you purchased/grabbed. So, visit your mysoftware screen fairly regularly so that you can spot/download free upgrades as/when they become available. If you believe you're entitled to a free/cheaper upgrade, or if the prices/options don't look like what you're expecting, then let us know. 5) Bundling (multiple modules) You can buy/upgrade individual modules, or a parent bundle module, depending on which modules you need/want and the corresponding prices. The system will automatically give you the relevant parent/bundle module(s) as/when your sub-modules all "add up" to what makes up the parent/bundle. And when you buy/upgrade a parent/bundle the system will automatically give you the relevant sub-modules. For example, if you have the image mega-bundle (BYZ077), you can upgrade the whole BYZ077 bundle, or if you only wanted the upgrade for the image-zooming element (BYZ075) then you can upgrade BYZ075 on its own; you'd just choose which level you want to upgrade/buy depending on the prices and elements that you need. If you want to upgrade everything, then choose the biggest/highest-level module/bundle and upgrade that first, because once you've bought that all your sub-modules on the mysoftware screen will then display the new versions and you'll see what's still left to upgrade. Because you have this choice of which level to upgrade at, adding all the displayed upgrade prices on your mysoftware screen will *not* be the actual price that you'd end up paying for all the modules (ie because you can upgrade at multiple levels, you effectively see the relevant costs more than once). This bundling logic is why you can only upgrade one module at a time on byk; it's so that you don't end up inadvertantly buying the same upgrade twice. Remember that you can see the full version history of any given module (and also see what sub-modules/parent-modules are relevant) by clicking on the module id on your mysoftware screen. If you have any questions about which module(s) you think you should be upgrading to get the best deal, then let us know. 6) Discounts Currently, if you sign-up to the byz monthly newsletter (on your profile screen), you get a 10% discount on all our software (including upgrades). If you believe you're entitled to another level of discount (for example if you had a customer discount on byz previous to moving to byk) then let us know. 7) Feeback/Questions/Problems If you have any questions/problems on the byk system, or just generally want to let us know what you think of it and any enhancements you'd like applied, please let us know. If you're not sure how something works, don't suffer in silence, just drop us an email to: support@bigyellowkey.com or raise a ticket from the byz help/support area. |
